Who's behind Julula

Julula is made by a small team with more than 15 years of building software and just as long working in investments and data. We wanted one clear view of our own money and couldn't find a tool that gave us what we wanted and needed, so we built it. Julula is the tool we use ourselves, and we're building it carefully, one step at a time.

Questions

What is net worth?

Everything you own (your home, car, savings, investments and retirement funds) minus everything you owe (your home loan, car finance, credit cards and other loans). It's the clearest single measure of where you stand financially, and watching it over time shows whether you're moving forward.

How do I calculate my net worth?

Add up everything you own, add up everything you owe, and take the second total away from the first. Our free net worth calculator does the sums as you type, with no sign-up.

What counts as an asset and what counts as a liability?

An asset is something you own that has value, such as your home, car, savings, investments and retirement funds. A liability is something you owe, such as a mortgage, car finance, credit cards and other loans. Your net worth is your assets minus your liabilities.

Is my home part of my net worth?

Yes. Count your home at what it would sell for today, and take off what you still owe on its mortgage. What is left is your equity in the home, and it counts toward your net worth.

Is my car an asset?

Yes, at what it would fetch if you traded it in today, which is usually less than you paid. Take off any car finance you still owe. Because cars lose value, it's worth updating the figure now and then.

How is Julula different from a budgeting app?

Budgeting apps track what you spend each month. Julula looks at the bigger picture: what you own, what you owe, and how your net worth changes over months and years, with the tools you need to manage debt, invest and build your wealth.

Do I need to link my bank account?

No. You add your own figures, so Julula never needs your banking logins. Updating your values takes a few minutes.

Which currencies does Julula support?

You choose one main currency when you start, and all your figures are shown in it. Support for accounts in more than one currency is coming.

Is Julula free?

Yes, Julula is free while it's in early access. Julula Plus, with more planning tools, is coming later.

Who can see my data?

Your figures are linked to your own sign-in, and other users can't see them. We don't share them with anyone, and we never sell your personal details.

Do I need to give personal details?

Very few. Julula never asks for your ID number, bank account numbers or banking logins. You need a working email address so we can send your sign-in codes, plus a first name (a nickname is fine), your birth year (for the retirement answer) and your country. You can name your accounts however you like, e.g. "My house" instead of an address, or "Savings" instead of a bank account number.

How often should I update my figures?

Once a month works well. Some values, like your home or car, only need an update now and then.
